Dan Russell: A Life in Music, A Sacred Journey of Recovery, and a Bold Creativity

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Dan Russell’s story is not simply about longevity in music. It is about devotion, to craft, to community, to purpose, and about continuing to create even when life interrupts the rhythm. For decades, Dan has worn many hats: musician, songwriter, producer, promoter, mentor, and advocate. His influence has reached far beyond the stage, shaping artists, building festivals, and strengthening music communities across the United States and beyond.

Now, as he steps into 2026 with 17 new songs in development and a forthcoming book, Dan enters one of the most productive and reflective seasons of his career. This new body of work is not just another release cycle. It is the result of years of lived experience, challenge, recovery, and renewed clarity.

Dan’s musical roots trace back to Massachusetts, where he began performing as a singer and guitarist in the 1970s shortly after high school. From the beginning, his passion for music extended beyond performance. He understood early that music had the power to connect people, to speak when words fell short, and to create space for something deeper. That understanding would guide much of his life’s work.

Over the years, Dan became known not only for his own artistry but for his ability to elevate others. He worked alongside and supported artists such as U2, Bruce Cockburn, Switchfoot, Sam Phillips, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, among many others. Whether in artist development, concert promotion, or production, Dan’s leadership consistently focused on strengthening creative expression and helping artists find sustainable platforms for their work.

In 1998, Dan helped launch Soulfest, one of the first faith-centered and socially conscious music festivals in New England. What began as an ambitious idea became a lasting cultural event that brought together artists and audiences in a shared experience rooted in both creativity and community. Soulfest reflected Dan’s belief that music should not exist in isolation, it should gather people, inspire conversation, and create lasting impact.

While much of his career involved building platforms for others, Dan has always remained an artist in his own right. His album Echoes, originally released as Feel the Echoes, stands as a defining personal work. Recently remixed and remastered in partnership with MI5/Universal Music Group, the album continues to find new listeners and maintain radio traction. The project captures Dan’s distinctive songwriting voice, thoughtful, melodic, and layered with lived perspective.

The song reflects a searching spirit, one that feels especially resonant given the chapters Dan has walked through in recent years.

In April 2020, Dan experienced a major brain stroke. For many artists, such an event could have marked an ending. For Dan, it became part of what he describes as a sacred journey. Recovery required patience, faith, and persistence. It reshaped how he viewed time, purpose, and the gift of being able to create at all. Then, in 2024, he faced another significant health challenge, heart failure, once again forcing him to confront vulnerability and resilience in equal measure.

Rather than stepping away from music, Dan leaned deeper into it. These health crises did not silence him; they sharpened his awareness. His creative output since then reflects a sense of gratitude and presence that cannot be manufactured. The upcoming 17-song project carries that perspective, music shaped by both struggle and hope.

In addition to new music, Dan is preparing to release a book in 2026. While details continue to unfold, the work is expected to offer insight into his decades in the industry, his advocacy for artists, and the personal journey that has defined his career. It promises to be both reflective and forward-looking, much like the music he continues to write.

Six years ago, Dan made another significant life change, relocating from Boston, where much of his career was built, to Santa Fe, New Mexico. This move marked both a personal and creative shift. Santa Fe’s artistic environment, open landscapes, and reflective pace have influenced his current writing season. The transition from his longtime home to a new creative base has added another layer to his evolving sound.

Dan Russell’s career defies simple categories. He has stood behind major productions and festivals, guided artists through career milestones, and released music that reflects decades of experience. He has performed and collaborated in spaces that demand excellence while remaining deeply committed to authenticity over trend.

What stands out most is not simply his résumé, but his endurance. Through changing industry landscapes, personal trials, and physical recovery, Dan has continued to create. His 2026 season represents more than productivity, it represents gratitude and clarity.

As listeners engage his existing catalog and anticipate the forthcoming releases, they are not just hearing songs. They are witnessing a life that has refused to disconnect from its calling.

Dan Russell’s journey is ongoing. With new music, a book on the horizon, and continued creative work flowing from Santa Fe, he remains what he has always been: a devoted craftsman of sound, a builder of community, and an artist whose story continues to unfold, note by note.
